Shakuhachi workshop

The School of Music at the Conservatoire of Performing Arts, Mont Fleuri, hosted a shakuhachi workshop led by renowned Japanese artist Yosuke Irie this afternoon.

Organized jointly by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the Embassy of Japan in Seychelles, the one-hour workshop offered students a unique opportunity to experience both traditional and modern Japanese music through the evocative sounds of the shakuhachi.

The shakuhachi is a traditional Japanese bamboo flute known for its distinctive, meditative tone and deep connection to Japanese cultural heritage.

During the session, Mr. Irie demonstrated the instrument’s expressive range, blending classical repertoire with contemporary interpretations.

This workshop promises to be an enriching cultural exchange, strengthening artistic ties between Seychelles and Japan while offering students an inspiring encounter with one of Japan’s most distinguished traditional musicians.
